2014 was the best year in history for Norwegian export of pelagic fish. With mackerel as the leading species, the export total hit an all time high for the year with an increase in export of 9% year on year.

2014 was the best year in history for Norwegian export of pelagic fish. With mackerel as the leading species, the export total hit an all time high for the year with an increase in export of 9% compared to 2013. 

The biggest markets for Norwegian Mackerel are China, the Netherlands, Nigeria and Japan. Particularily the Japanese market has taken to the fish as an alternative to their own mackerel, and most of the Chinese export is being processed and sold to Japan. 

Norwegian mackerel is according to research at its best in in September and October and contains lots of healthy fat which makes it both tasty and soughtafter.
